Evidence of Attainment (student learning activities from coursework, experiences in practicum, professional achievements)

Competency I

Facilitate Learning

Preparation: 9 hours

●   Getting classroom ready for travel nurses orientation as well as new staff nurses.

●   Providing testing for telemetry strips to assess nursing knowledge then grading them and providing feedback.

●   Setting up and providing PowerPoints in reviewing facilities policies and procedures.

Setting up and demonstrating how to use glucometer  machine and having them provide demonstration teach back.

Nurse educators are responsible for creating an environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective, and

psychomotor outcomes.

Competency II

Facilitate Learner Development and Socialization

Nurse educators recognize their responsibility to help students develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors

expected of those who fulfill that role.

Clinical 5 hours

  • Reviewed patient care with several new grad nurses on the telemetry floor.

  • New grad nurses go over the plan of care of their patients in review what they did and what and if they would change anything.

Competency III

Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies

Nurse educators use a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, as well as in all domains of learning.

  • Clinical 5 hours

  •  Reviewed real time telemetry strips with new grad nurses. I had the measure the strips and diagnosed the rhythm.

  • Evaluated their knowledge of reading telemetry strips, with real time performance feedback

Competency IV

Participate in Curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program Outcomes

Nurse educators are responsible for formulating program outcomes, designing curricula that reflect contemporary healthcare trends, and preparing graduates to function effectively in the healthcare environment.

  • Observed 4 hours

  •  Assisted preceptor in orientation to new travelers and new nurse hires.

  • Reviewed the design curriculum and goals that they use with the preceptor which included telemetry testing, orientation to policies and procedures of the facility, several online educational PowerPoints with testing at the end and setting them up with the facilities EMR system as well as guiding them as to how to use such system.

Function as a Change Agent and Leader

Nurse educators function as change agents and leaders to create a preferred future for

nursing education and practice.

  • Instructional 3 hours

  • Assisted my preceptor in educating new grad nurses on how to read and measure telemetry strips.

  • Provided written testing as well as real-time patient strips.

Competency VI

Pursue Continuous Quality Improvements in the Nurse Educator Role

Nurse educators recognize that their role is multidimensional and that an ongoing commitment to develop and maintain competence in the role is

essential.

  • Direct care 24 hours

  • I did my Gibbs’ reflective cycle clinical reflections, for three of my direct care patients.

  • I read several chapters of the assigned reading material as well as viewing several PowerPoint videos.

  • I reviewed with my preceptor some policies and procedures of the facility and reviewed a couple of them on UpToDate platform for new updated guidelines.

Engage in Scholarship

Nurse educators acknowledge that scholarship is an integral component of the faculty role and that teaching itself is a scholarly

activity.

  • Preparation 2 hours

  • Discussed with my preceptor restructuring the IV policy for the facility.

  • Researched evidence based practice articles and sites in order to develop and redesign the policy.

Competency VIII

Function Within the Educational Environment

Nurse educators are knowledgeable about the educational environment within which they practice and recognize how political, institutional, social, and economic forces impact their role.

  • Observed 6 hours

  • I observed how staff educators in an acute hospital setting have to communicate with several different departments as well as administration.

  • Making this very difficult at times to put new policies or education materials into play
